Put せい (sei) after a school to say a student there: だいがくせい (daigakusei) is a university student.

Put せい (sei) after a school to say a student there: だいがく (daigaku), university, makes だいがくせい (daigakusei), a university student. It goes after りゅうがく (ryuugaku), studying abroad, too: りゅうがくせい (ryuugakusei) is an international student.

Say the number, then ねんせい (nensei): いちねんせい (ichinensei) is a first-year student.

Kero: なんねんせいですか。 Nannensei desu ka. What year are you in?

You: いちねんせいです。 Ichinensei desu. I am a first-year student.
